Our monthly walk takes place on the first Sunday of each month (we avoid Bank Holiday Sundays so it may be the second Sunday on some occasions). In summer we aim for destinations such as the Welsh borders or the Dark Peak. Winter walks are closer to home – the White Peak or the Cotswolds.
Our coach departs from Oadby East Street Car Park, LE2 5AF (the coach parks near the side entrance of the Oadby Trinity Methodist Church) at 08.00 hours and returns at approximately 19.30 hours, a bit later in the lighter months. Note that we also make a small number of pick-ups between Oadby and Fosse Park for members. Coach fares (preferably paid by cheque) are:
Adult members £12
Adult Guests/Visitors £15
Junior/Student Guests/Visitors £8
Each month there are up to 5 led walks, of differing lengths and amounts of uphill walking, usually one short, three medium and one long walk. Short walks are typically 8-10 miles with some 1500 feet of uphill walking. Medium walks range from about 10 to 14 miles with varying amounts of uphill. Long walks are between 15 and 18 miles with up to 3500 feet of uphill walking. Walkers select their walk on the outward coach journey.
Packed lunches are always taken. All the walks finish at the same destination where there is always a pub and often a café so we can enjoy a some refreshment and conversation before the return journey. On the way home a collection is made for the driver.
